IITB ( Indian Institute of Technology Bombay )
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) is one of the seven higher Institutes of Technology in the country set up with the objective of making available facilities for higher education, research and training in various fields of Science and Technology.The Institute on an average admits 500 candidates for the undergraduate programme through Joint Entrance Exam(JEE), 100 candidates for M.Sc. programmes, 550 candidates for different postgraduate programmes and 110 for Ph.D programmes every year.
Campus
IIT Bombay is located at Powai, which is an eastern suburb in the North-Eastern part of Mumbai.
Mumbai is in the form of a long narrow island, almost a peninsula, thrusting south wards into the Arabian Sea. It can be broadly divided into four zones.
South Bombay (Colaba, CST,Fort, Chruchgate, Nariman Point etc.)Central Bombay (Dadar, Bombay Central, Worli etc)
The Western suburbs (Bandra, Juhu, Andheri, Borivali etc)

Summer training at IITB
The following guidelines have been approved by the director for admitting temporary external students for doing their degree project work in IIT Bombay
Such admissons shall be only on the basis of requests from the external Institute/College to the Institute.
The student must submit a recommendation letter from the Director/Principal/Head of Department of his/her Institution.
Individual requests will not be considered.
Such requests will be duly considered at the level of Guide,Head of Department and the Dean(AP).
If it is decided to admit the students,only full time students(working continously)shall be admmited. Their numbers shall be so regulated regular IIT Bombay students are not affected in anyway.This is to be ensured by the concerned Head of Departments/Centre/Schools.
Student who has to work more than 8 weeks in IIT Bombay will be given temporary identity card and library reading facility.Such students will be required to pay external student fee as detailed below effective from 1st September 2006.
Summer training(8 weeks) - Rs.6,000/-
Degree Project Work(B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.CA for a period upto 6 months) - - Rs.15,000/-
Master's Project Work(M.Tech Level) for a period upto 6 months - Rs.20,000/-
Master's Project Work(M.Tech. Level) for a period more than 6 months and upto 1 year - Rs.25,000/-
The application in the prescribed format (copy attached) must be sumbitted for such external candidates duly endorsed by his/her proposed guide and Head of the respective Department/School/Center etc
