Free Yoga Classes to be conducted in all Government Schools More Details...

Tiruchi: Age notwithstanding, enthusiasm was writ large on the faces of the participants at the district-level yoga competition, jointly conducted by the Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and Tiruchi District Yogasana Association (TDYA) at Anna Stadium here on Sunday. Categories The event, which was conducted under 11,14,17, 21,25, 35, 45 and above 45 age categories, attracted around 150 participants. Ten school teams also took part in the competition. "The overall standard of the competitors is good. But still there is a need to fine-tune their skills. TDYA coaches will help them through the various training programmes we have planned to conduct," says the association president, T. Seshasayee, after considering the performance of the various groups. Tiruchi District Yogasana Association has planned to conduct free yogasana classes in all Government schools. Therapy camps and special training for senior citizens are on the anvil. J. Chandrasekaran and N. Kavitha have been appointed coaches for the Tiruchi district by the Tamil Nadu Yogasana Association. "Though yoga competitions are not a must, we feel that it helps in bringing out the best from a performer. Also it gives an opportunity for the youngsters to emulate their seniors," says Mr. Chandrasekaran. The Alpha group of schools won the overall championship at the competition and covered themselves with glory after exhibiting their prowess. The best among the participants will be chosen for the State meet that is scheduled to be held later next month. The Regional Senior Manager, Tiruchi-unit of SDAT, N. Sundaram, gave away the prizes.
